Longview was founded in 1924 by Robert A. Long, president of the Long-Bell Timber Company. Longview was a planned city, built with the intention of housing Long-Bell employees, and is currently home to nearly 63,000 residents.
There are countless recreation and leisure activities waiting for you in Longview, including miles of walking, jogging, and biking trails, gardens, parks, kayaking, fishing, concerts, events, outdoor art, Lake Sacajawea and squirrel bridges!

Boating & Fishing
ABERNATHY CREEK is located near the confluence of the Columbia River and Abernathy Creek, about 20 miles west of Longview. Chum salmon spawn in Abernathy Creek.

​COAL CREEK BOAT LAUNCH is a small launch made for kayaks and small boats that provides access to Coal Creek Slough. There is a small launch without a dock. If you are headed West in Highway 4 it is your first left after the Coal Creek/Ocean Beach Hwy intersection.

​GERHART GARDENS PARK is located off the east end of Tennant Way, along the Cowlitz River and provides visitors with a picnic area, boat launch, dog park, and fun outdoor activities. It is a great place to watch bald eagles when the smelt are running.

​LAKE SACAJAWEA PARK is located between Nichols and Kessler Blvd. Rain or shine finds people walking, jogging and biking the 3.5 miles of trails that wind under landscaped bridges past many species of trees and flowers in bloom, through rhododendron gardens and past the lake’s two spectacular fountains. Kayaking, fishing, canoeing, watching the local wildlife and picnicking bring out the fun loving and adventurous types.

​WILLOW GROVE PARK & BOAT LAUNCH is located at 7235 Willow Grove Road. With continued improvements to park facilities and new amenities, the Port of Longview has made Willow Grove Park a place to safely boat, fish and play on the beautiful Columbia River.

COWLITZ COMMUNITY FARMERS MARKET takes place every Tuesday and Saturday from April to October, Saturdays on 7th Avenue across from the fairgrounds, and Tuesdays downtown on 12th Avenue. Vendors supply customers with farm fresh fruit, vegetables, baked goods, hand crafted items, and so much more

​FISH is located at 1526 Commerce Avenue. FISH is a volunteer based social service organization that helps people in need by providing assistance with prescriptions, food, dental emergencies, and water bills.

LONGVIEW COMMUNITY GARDENS have two spots with garden space rentals. Plots can be rented at the 32nd Ave garden or garden box space can be rented at Victoria Freeman Park.

​LOWER COLUMBIA CAP is located at 1526 Commerce Avenue. Lower Columbia CAP is a self-help program for low income families.

​LOWER COLUMBIA SCHOOL GARDENS connects kids and families with real food and hands-on learning. Through dynamic garden and cooking programs, they cultivate health, equity, life-long learning, and stewardship of the world around us. This program is found in multiple local elementary and middle schools.

Fairgrounds
COWLITZ COUNTY EVENT CENTER and FAIRGROUNDS is located at 1900 7th Avenue. The event center hosts numerous events throughout the year. The fairgrounds also hosts events, including the annual Cowlitz County Fair and Rodeo in July.

Library
LONGVIEW PUBLIC LIBRARY– is located at 1600 Louisiana Street. The Longview Public Library provides a variety of resources including books, ebooks, audio books, computer terminals, and programs for a variety of ages and interests. On the library grounds, find a historical marker and the restored Shay Locomotive used for logging, as well as beautiful gardens.

ALTRUSA PARK TRAIL, also known as Mt. Solo Trail, is a nature trail that runs 1.3 miles along the slough area behind homes in this Mt. Solo development.
